Cheers!

"Under the Milky Way.
J'ai untilisé deux images/2 images were used.
Land: f8, 12 Seconds, ISO 100. Sky: f4, 30 Seconds, ISO 4,000"
http://www.david-kochkerian.com/

The photographer David Keochkerian first caught my attention when I saw his Infra Red photos, which are very unique. After looking at more of his photographs I liked him even more because his pictures seem dreamy, almost like another world, yet it depicts the earth’s beauty in such a creative manner. The picture I chose is called “Under the Milky Way” and it is one of my favorites form his portfolio. The first thing that caught my eye were the vibrant yet deep colors, and the continuous line created by the yellow trail and the milky way. Furthermore, it was the starry sky what made this picture my favorite. I have always been amazed by the immensity of the universe and fascinated by the fact that we all come from it. Makes me feel big, rather than small, like the universe is inside of me and you;  after all, we are all made of the same elements. My favorite part of the image though is that the artist combined to photographs two create this image. I am assuming that the land image was taken during the day since the shutter speed is only 12 seconds, although the lights in the house suggest that it was taken at night. The sky photo was definitely taken at night and has an ISO 4,000. Finally, I think this image represents me in a way; I often find that I have a duality to myself. Also, the combination just looks really awesome.

Critique of my friend's photos...

http://jaytea30.blogspot.com

11. In this picture the pop of color is the bird, which is very well placed using the rule of thirds. The bird seems to be in an urban setting, which seems to be out of place, however, the gray background makes the colors pop-pop. The balance is created by the curving edge on which the bird stands on, although I would have liked to see the picture taken from a lower angle. It seems to be a little bit underexposed but it is not terrible. The top right corner is a tad brighter which distracts me somewhat. I probably would have made the frame a little smaller, so that it would seem that the ledge keeps going forever. The picture reminds me of Angry Birds, yes, the iPhone game.
22.     There is a lot of color in this picture, but the one that pops the most is the red monster, being that it is the only part that is in focus. I think the composition would make more sense if the purple guy was in focus because it is in front of the red monster. There is some balance between the brightness of the left hand side created by the chrome tube and the white strings on the right hand side, but it could have been improved by having a wider depth of field. The image seems well exposed but I would have focused on an object that could be observed whole, or at least wasn’t covered by another object out of focus. The picture is ok, but I feel like there is too much going on, it does however bring some life to the red monster. It seems like it is looking right at us, a bit guilty and surprised that we found him.
33.     Nice! The pop of color is very obviously the headlight covers on the jeep. It makes a lot of sense. The composition is very good although I personally would have made the frame a little smaller or bigger. It seems well exposed and there is an attempt at asymmetrical balance, which could have been made more prominent by including more of the jeep or closing in on the headlamps more. The photographer might not have had control over this, but the top right corner throws me off. The picture goes between white, black and yellow, and that corner dulls the picture in my opinion. This image makes me want to go off-roading on my jeep back at home, it brings back a lot of memories.
44.     The pop of color is the red/orange guitar. It makes sense because all the other guitars are white, black or natural. Also, the pop of color is slightly iff center, which makes it a good composition. However, the placement of the frame could use a little improvement. On the right hand side we see a partial guitar that is very out of focus; I don’t think that is necessary. Also, the black guitar at the front overshadows the pop of color, specially the light bulb reflection at the top. On the other hand, the picture seems very well exposed and provokes an emotion of excitement. Going to an instrument store is very exciting for anyone who had ever played anything. I would have removed the partial guitar, narrowed my depth of field to focus only on the orange guitar and maybe include the whole body of the black one.
55.     At first glance the pop of color is the red mask, but once you look at it you can notice the golden pops of color, especially the red reflection on the bottom left hand side. The picture is a bit off balanced, which makes the pop of color not make sense. I feel like a tighter frame would have improved the picture a whole lot. In general, the photographer could pay more attention to his frames. The picture is a little bit underexposed. Too much range of colors to really appreciate the pop. Like I mentioned, I think a tighter frame would improve the picture a lot.
66.     The pop of color is in the hanging paper flag thingies. I think it makes a lot of sense and I like the difference in contrast between the flags and the sky background and then the building. The tall building on the right and the condensed flags on the left achieve asymmetrical balance.  The picture seems well exposed and I like the range of tones.  Again, I think It could have been improved by tightening the frame, maybe avoid leaving so much empty space at the top. It gives me the feeling of an abandoned fiesta.
77.     The pop of color can be seen in the mosaic within the picture. I liked how he combined both elements; the tree and the artwork; it created balance. The pop of color could be more prominent but it fulfills the requirement. It is underexposed and in general the tones seem very dark. Also, the depth of field could have been wider to have everything in complete focus. The image however, provoked deep feelings of good vs. evil.
88.     Mariachi!! I like this picture and it is well composed, but it is also a tad underexposed. The pop of color is the scarf thing the mariachi has hanging on his right shoulder. I like the balance that the “Mi Tierra” hanging sign creates; I would have put that in focus because it is the same face as the mariachi but that is just my personal preference.
99.     This is probably my favorite picture so far. It is simple yet balanced and just the right exposure. There is a couple of colors but I think yellow is what pops out the most. The tone is consistent, which I like. The balance is created by the distribution of the colors.  The only thing I would have changed is maybe including a larger portion of the wall, but that’s my opinion.
110. I really like the subject of the picture; the yellow bike is the pop of color. It even achieves some asymmetrical balance, however, I don’t like the fact that the subject is cut off at the bottom. The tones are ok but there is some underexposure. I would have included the whole bike, but other than that I really like it. It gives me a feeling of nostalgia.
